Creating Birch Bark Picture Frames/Old Forge, NY.

In this half day workshop, you’ll learn the basic techniques required to work with birch bark and twig to ornament rustic woodcraft. Each student will decorate and take home an 8” X 10” frame to be used as a picture frame or mirror.

You will ornament and complete an 8” X 10” picture frame with materials supplied by Kapristo Mountain Woodcraft. We’ll work with birch bark, pine cones, acorns, twigs and other natural materials, learning how to prepare, attach, and finish them. The same techniques can be applied to the ornamentation of rustic furniture. At the end of the workshop, you will have an ornamented frame ready to be oiled and to have a piece of glass inserted. Reflective glass fits into the frame to create an ornamented rustic mirror, or clear glass creates an ornamented picture frame ready to receive a photo, print or painting.

This workshop is an excellent introduction to rustic woodcraft, or a fun half-day with a new project design for those who have some experience building rustic furniture.

The workshop fee includes all materials. A Student Tool list is provided at registration. No previous woodworking experience is required. Students must be in good health, able to handle sharp tools and perform moderate manual labor.
